DescriptionThe position holder is end-to-end accountable for the overall function which covers process and modular automation for respective BU inside GFE Automation.
The position owner leads the respective BU-focused GFE automation group globally and is accountable to define, align with BU representatives, and implement the automation strategy & roadmap globally.
This includes responsibility for standardization, solution architecture, vendor management, quality & compliance, talent management, performance, program/project portfolio, stability and cost efficiency for all Automation processes and services in that function.
Steers harmonization and standardization globally including long-term system life-cycle support of automation systems, in alignment/coordination with the heads of other global automation BU, Building & Infrastructure and the Head of Automation Strategy & Technology and his Team.
The position holder builds & provides strategic leadership and contributes to the definition & fulfillment of strategic targets inside and also outside of GFE (example BU Engineering & Technology and BU Supply Chain in general).
Contribution occurs by being accountable for decision templates for senior executives.
The position holder secures delivery for large automation projects of the respective BU globally and safeguards related implementation in alignment with the Automation CAPEX support team from GFE Automation Strategy & Technology.
Provides in addition divisional governance for Site Automation Master Plan and Site Life Cycle Management.
Leads the automation related part of Digitalization initiatives as well as initiatives to improve Data Integrity and IT-Security of Automation systems in coordination with IT and his/her respective peers of other global BU, B&I GFE Automation and Automation Strategy & Technology.

Duties & Responsibilities Leads and develops BUs automation function as a global matrix organization.
Accountable for the regional automation team as administrative supervisor (> 50 FTE, depending on region) and BU-specific site heads of automation as functional supervisor (> 40 FTE, depending on BU).
Leads and develops the GFE human capital in alignment with administrative supervisors, to provide excellence in performance, organizational flexibility, diversity, succession planning, coaching, change management and personal growth.
Accountable to ensure availability, quality, efficiency, and compliance of automation systems as an increasingly strategic component across all BU Sites in his/her responsibility.
Position holder is accountable for a tailored automation roadmap for the global BU function automation, supporting the BU strategy.
She/He drives the implementation along an automation roadmap.
Based on the above-mentioned BU's global automation strategy, the position holder is in addition accountable for development of BU Automation Systems Landscape including divisional technology standards and related transfer of resulting concepts to all sites for the global BU.
This needs alignment and harmonization with Automation Strategy & Technology.
Leads heads of automation team in his/her responsibility to ensure economic and reliable operation of BU Automation Systems including long-term system life-cycle support via planning and implementation of adequate measures.
Secures solution architecture of large automation related projects and safeguards implementation.
Ensures stability of automation project teams in major CAPEX projects related to BUs automation strategy.
Builds and sustains performance measurement concepts, establishes periodic reporting and communication including Strategy, Projects, KPI for the BU automation function.
Acts as main interface and communicator for automation topics on management level.
Leads the automation related part of Digitalization initiatives and robotics as well as initiatives to improve Data Integrity and OT-Security of Automation systems in alignment with Corporate IT.
Requirements Diploma/Masters Degree (e.
g.
MBA, MSc) or comparable education Automation/Engineering Extensive relevant professional experience (> 6 years).
Must be a solid strategic thinker and motivator and understands what delivers true value to the business function.
Strong Experience in all Automation areas (e.
g.
process & modular automation).
Experience with process related IT and Digitalization technology.
Deep knowledge of current automation landscape and its weaknesses.
Understanding of pharmaceutical (biopharmaceutical, HPS, AH, B&I) manufacturing processes.
Versatile in People Management, Leading Leaders (direct line and functional), Cost Control, Project Management.
Strong communication skills in a complex global and cross-functional/culture environment, excellent social and networking skills.
Strong knowledge in Change Management and Project Management.
Deep knowledge in compliance aspects of automation systems (FDA & EMA Audits).
International working experience to enable successful international team working.
Ability to efficiently research, understand and communicate process and manufacturing automation concepts and how to best apply them to requirements.
Ability to leverage technical knowledge to counsel and educate business partners in technology trends and provide recommendations towards continuous improvements.
Ability to manage resource and activity planning, cost estimation.
Ability to ensure and implement defined standards.
Leadership skills, strong customer focus, vendor management and negotiation skills.
Must have a track record in implementing technologies and realizing business benefit in a global/regional environment (including different cultures).
